Pumpkin Kisses and Harvest Wishes
Waylin has been living that Midwest life lately! The last few days have been spent doing everything that’s good in the country.
FIL has an old tractor on his property. I wished I knew more about it. Every morning when I drop her off at Grandma and Grandpa’s house, we walk over to the tractor and she touches it. 🚜 We also point to Grandpa’s office and where the chickens are before we come inside.
She also got to feed chickens in her chicken dress! She picked some homegrown cherry tomatoes from Grandma’s garden to give to the chickens.
I don’t think I ever dreamed that I would own a dress with chickens on it, but MAN! It’s definitely one of my favorites! I know her closet is going to reach a point where I’ll need to start making some decisions on what to keep versus donate. I tried a version of the Marie Kondo method of asking yourself “does this outfit spark joy?” And the verdict was, “Everything did.” 🤣 I don’t know the fate of her closet, but I do know this chicken dress isn’t going anywhere!
This little chicken and tractor adventure took place while I was still at work. I am very fortunate to have married into such a great family that loves her as much as I do. Lindsay sent me these pictures and it just made me realize how loved Waylin is. I know that she is, but it makes me happy to see them give her little experiences even when I’m not there…and to share pictures with me too (so I feel like I am there!) Thank you, Bohlens!
Way actually got to “ride” two tractors this weekend. We went to Harvest Market for a couple groceries and they have a big tractor sitting outside! She knew exactly how to steer and shift the tractor. I don’t know how she got this cool…😎
So, it’s 2019. We live in an era where there are two types of people: pumpkin lovers and pumpkin-hating aliens. 👽 I LOVE PUMPKIN EVERYTHING! And yes, it’s August 26th and I totally got a pumpkin coffee on an 80 degree day. Hey, it was iced, so I straddled both seasons with grace!
This year, my in-laws turned three of their fields into a pumpkin patch for the Crowley family that lives down the road. They put on the “Crowley Pumpkin Display” every year which consists of TONS of carved, lit pumpkins displayed in the woods for folks to drive by and see! Waylin has “seen” them every year, even as a 10 day old baby!
Her first time was kind of funny because it was the last day of the display, so MIL said “let’s go!” We climbed into her car and since Way was sleeping, we decided I would just hold her in the car. Yeah, I did bad “mom things” just 10 days in…🤣 It’s literally two houses over and everyone drives really slow so they can see all of the pumpkins. But Pam made sure to tell me that if for any reason we get into an accident, I wrap a blanket around Waylin and get out of the car to start walking back to the house. 😂
Long story short, we have our very own pumpkin patch to visit! 🎃
My in-laws told us that we should “mark” the pumpkins that we want because they weren’t sure when the Crowleys were going to pick ‘em. We hopped on the 4-wheeler three-deep and hit the woods!
Waylin is T O T A L L Y in love with the 4-wheeler! This was our first “family ride” and it was so much fun! She was so content while we rode. She looked so relaxed and calm when we were riding, and every now and then she would crack a smirk, but she mostly was just taking it all in and enjoying the ride! 💨
She even reaches up to steer herself!
We brought these big tall painted sticks to mark the ones we want. MIL said the big ones were in the field down by the river, so we headed there first, because who doesn’t want M A S S I V E pumpkins? 🎃
Waylin loved walking through the vines and the dirt to pick pumpkins!
We decided on four different pumpkins. The Crowleys told us that you can carve something into the pumpkin and as it grows, it will scar itself with your design. I tried to carve a “W” into one of the pumpkins and I definitely did not have the right tools, so I gave up. I don’t even think the W had all of the right lines to make it a “W” lol!
After marking our pumpkins, we decided to ride around on the 4-wheeler for a little bit longer. We even went down the road to see a veggie stand and a house for sale. The sun was setting, and it just felt like a dream. It was a perfect afternoon for our family!
We officially picked our pumpkins from the patch a week later, so we hope they last until Halloween! 🎃
