Watchin' My Corn Pop Up In Rows...

Watchin' My Corn Pop Up In Rows...

I'm gonna live where the green grass grows
Watch my corn pop up in rows
Every night be tucked in close, to you
Raise our kids where the good Lord's blessed
Point our rockin' chairs towards the west
And plant our dreams where the peaceful river flows
Where the green grass grows

-”Where the Green Grass Grows” by Tim McGraw

Growing up, my mum let me explore every sport, instrument, and extracurricular that I was interested in. I remember watching Tara Lipinski win the gold medal in women’s figure skating at the Winter Olympics in 1998. She was the youngest gold medalist to win, and she was truly inspiring to me. I remember telling my mum that I wanted to be a figure skater and I wanted to win the next Olympics (not knowing that they were 4 years apart, I would definitely have some work to do! 🤣 ).

I figure skated for a couple of years and it was something that I actually really enjoyed. I loved learning new tricks and jumps on the ice; however, gracefulness was not in my blood. It wasn’t until I had to do solo testing to go up to the next level that I realized how ungraceful I actually was. Solo testing involved a choreographed piece where you highlight all of the moves that you are required to do to pass to the next level (which was the big leagues).

Most girls picked instrumental music, but that wasn’t my jam. My coach was really great and saw that I wanted something unique. She was friends with an all female local band that sang this catchy punk rock song that was upbeat. I said, “let’s go for it!” The choreography was awesome, the song was awesome, but when it came time for me to perform, I was not awesome. I got off beat early on, I fell once, and my leg did not lift high enough to count for one move. I did not smile one bit of my solo. 😶

It took me awhile to get my confidence back up to do an actual ice show. I did sign up to be in two performances soon after. The ice show was centered around “Colors”, and I skated to “Blue Suede Shoes” by Elvis Presley and “Where the Green Grass Grows” by Tim McGraw.. This picture below reminded me of that country song!

Sundays seem to be two things to people: lazy or fun days. I generally do most of my chores on Sundays, but I always try to find time to take a break once in awhile. Waylin is such a great helper when it comes to lending a hand, so I asked her if she wanted to help me take the garbage out. She reached for her bunny boots (her rainboots) and we headed out the door.

I didn’t really think a shirt was necessary as we were just going to the end of the driveway. 🤷‍♀️ But, I should have known going outside would turn into a longer adventure!

It was sprinkling out, but just so lightly that you wouldn’t know it unless you reached out your hand. We walked over to the corn stalks to explore those for a little bit. She looked so beautiful among the corn, smiling back at me as she touched the stalk in jeans, rainboots, and her Courtney Love hairdo. 🤣🤘❤ I am so grateful for these days where I can stop and notice that kind of beauty.

She totally “bye-d” me when we got to the end of the driveway! She is fiercely independent, and I will admit that it does scare me sometimes. I was never independent like that as a kid. I didn’t develop that part of me until I was an adult. I was shy and reserved. She is so brave and forward, but with this sweet kind demeanor.

You can clearly tell she was fine walking down the street topless 🤦‍♀️, so you may be asking “how DID you get her to come back inside?” It’s funny how dramatic her body language was when I told her that we had to go in…

How did I do it? I promised her she could help me vacuum! 🤣 I swear…that was the only way!

Want proof?

Look how excited she is! 😄

Now, even though the floors took twice as long to do, I will always welcome her help!
