I just wanted to remind you that you CAN write-in a candidate today. I believe you spell it

This is one of those photoshoots that I have looked back on many times with a smile and a self satisfaction of what I created. It is not easy to trust yourself and your ideas. 99% of the time when I have shared an idea with another person, their reaction is always one of confusion…a supportive confusion. But definitely confused.

Since the traditional two-party system we have here in the United States is usually marked by an elephant or a donkey, I decided to design a United States seal that involved one of her favorite animals, a unicorn. The emblem turned out great and Waylin has begged for me to salvage it and hang it on her wall!

I used a bottom portion of a cardboard box when we bought a new oven to create the podium. It had two pieces of wood lined across and I knew it was the perfect size and setup to be made into a presidential podium. I painted the wood after calling my sister who is basically Bob Ross, to make sure I was buying the right kind of paint! I found the royal-est blue I could find to really give it that “president” feel.

I pulled out some 4th of July decorations that we had to make sure we had some flag representation in there too and these skinny flags I bought from the dollar store were the perfect touch to really frame her out.

I bought the pink pant suit which ended up fitting her well, but knew she had to have some time of a brooch. I’ve kept some sparkly buttons that I bought when Waylin was a newborn. My MIL and I were designing her stocking and decided to add some flair. In the end, we went with some bling from Pam’s old prom dress (which I just love!). So, I had this big gaudy button to attach to her blazer for the full effect of a “power suit".”

To my surprise, Waylin said they didn’t really do a lot in class to learn about the election or talk about the candidates. That is starkly different from my childhood where we would do mock voting polls and watch the vote counting in real time. But, when I asked her what her policies would be if she became president, she gave me her real answers:

If I were president, I would want everyone to be nice to each other and free donuts for everyone!

So, I decided that she needed an agenda posted up in the image because her response was too cute! I actually used an easel that my husband made me for my VERY FIRST creative photoshoot (the Bob Ross shoot!).

I made the pearl necklaces myself the night before as nothing screams FEMALE PRESIDENT than a set of pearls!

My FIL had a PA system that we actually borrowed at my grandpa’s celebration of life to give speeches. I need to write a post about that because it was a big part of our healing journey. At the celebration of life, Waylin actually sang songs in front of everyone on the microphone! It was a major move for my little shy girl. She sang Avril Lavigne and the Counting Crows. Tell me you don’t think that’s cool! 😎

After the celebration of life, my FIL said we could keep the PA system. We have lovingly played with it a lot as a family singing songs together and being silly. It’s honestly a really fun thing to have in the house! He gave us a couple of microphones and a microphone stand which I neatly tucked behind the podium to give the illusion of it being planted within the platform!
