This past week has been SUPER HOT! I’m talking 90 degrees of swass (aka sweaty ass) and sunburns. I’m talking ice-cold water bottles going room temperature within minutes! I’m talking breathing air like you’re in a worldwide sauna! Whew!

Sunday, Waylin and I made our usual trip to the grocery store.

I go through phases of buying all healthy food vs a shit ton of snacks. This week was a healthy food haul. 😂 I took great care to pick up spinach, chia seeds, asparagus, and all the other things in the name of HEALTH! We always have to go to two grocery stores, so you can bet “Jurass” 🐱‍🐉 that I was REALLY feeling the heat!

I could tell Waylin was starting to be annoyed by it too. I’m sure it’s no fun being stuffed into a carseat in the back of a tiny Toyota several times. When we got to Meijer, I decided to let her walk into the store on her own. We had the majority of the store to ourselves…probably because no one wanted to go out in the heat!🔥

I let her walk through the entire store with me and pick out our items to throw them in the cart! She loved being trusted to grab things like butter and cereal all by herself. I could see the pride on her face! She even helped me push the cart to the car after we checked out.

A very nice woman came up to us in the parking lot shortly after I took this picture and said, “YOU…are a great mom! I just wanted to let you know that!” ❤ GOSH! I bet I was all kinds of red from blushing! That is the greatest compliment I can ever receive. We all know that raising a child in an environment with positive reinforcement is really beneficial to them, but us moms also need that! We need to be told we are doing a good job, because internally we all struggle with the idea that we aren’t good enough or we aren’t doing enough! So, thank you, stranger! Your kindness put a smile on my face for the rest of the day!

I realized that I forgot bottled water…the one thing you shouldn’t forget during a heat wave weekend! We went back to Aldi, and I took another stroll down the “Aisle of Shame” as I like to call it. Now, this is a good time to tell ya’ll about my cardinal rule when it comes to shopping: If you think about something for 2 days, go buy it! It’s pretty simple. Having said that, my decision to buy this crazy kewl (remember when we used to spell it like that? 🤣) dinosaur, sprinkler, water slide, baby pool, ball pit pool…I think I covered all the things this Aldi gem was!

I mean, yeaaaaah…technically, that time lapse in relation to my “cardinal rule” was more like 40 minutes and not 2 days, but ya’ll this weather was desert conditions. And there’s no concept of time in the desert, so you do the math! 🔥🌵🐫 #jurassictimesjurssicmeasures

This was definitely a lucky day, because I was prepared to pay $40 for the pool and when the clerk ran it through, it came down to $19!

We spent the rest of the day playing in the water! I know sometimes we beat ourselves up when we do things that aren’t chores or working on the house, but these types of days are necessary for the soul.
