She's one *POOL* kid!
Remember saying “BOO YEAH” about virtually anything back in the 90s? You check the snack cabinet and grab the last Fruit Roll-Up before your sister can…BOO YEAH! You scored more questions right on a Cosmo test about N’sync than your best friend…BOO YEAH! And if you REALLY mean it, you would add an “IN YOUR FACE” afterwards. 😂
I love my husband, but he was not supportive of my decision to enroll Waylin into swim lessons. He thought it would be too much for her and he kept saying, “But she’s a baby!” I told him technically we are behind, because they start swim lessons at 6 months old! 😆
Benjamin, I love you, but BOO YEAH! 😆
SHE ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!
We had our first class at the Urbana Aquatics Center last Saturday. Prior to our class, I was totally “first moming” about her diaper situation. I stressed over when and where I would put her swim diaper on. I didn’t really want to use the locker room, because #germs. I even got creative with layering diapers: real diaper with swim diaper on top so I could easily slip off the real diaper. 🤦♀️
SO. MANY. SCENARIOS. #thisismotherhood
And it’s funny because I didn’t even think twice about the diaper once I got there. So much so, when I was looking at the pictures I snapped at lessons, I noticed that I actually put her swim diaper on backwards! Luckily, there were no “is that a Snickers bar in the pool” announcements because of us. 😂
She was so excited when she saw the pool!
The class was based around play and sing songs! We get to be in the water with them, so I definitely stayed up late the night before shaving my legs from winter (#yikes).
This little mermaid 🧜♀️listened so well and even impressed the instructor!
I know I’m biased because I’m her mama, but she was the BEST kid in the class! She was all smiles while the other babies were fussy and crying. One of her favorite activities at the lesson was the part where we practiced jumping into the water to the Humpty Dumpty song. She would bravely jump in all while giggling! ❤
At the end of class, we had a couple of minutes to play. We decided to try the dinosaur slide. Waylin is still learning how to go down slides sitting up, but she did great! I could tell she liked sliding down into a big slash at the bottom!
There is this electric feeling I experience when I see her happiness. It’s magical and inexplicable. It is like I can FEEL her heart smiling inside her little body. That’s how I knew a big “BOO YEAH” was in order! ✌
We used the locker room after all. I didn’t think about what I was going to do AFTER swim lessons were over! It was a little uncomfortable as there were lots of limbs being shoved in and out of swimsuits, kids crying, and mothers yelling “stop running” to their children. If there was ever an example needed for the word “chaos”, it would be a locker room after toddler swim lessons! 😅
There was a baby crying loudly when I was awkwardly changing Waylin on a small bench. Way was really concerned about that baby. She kept looking around and making the “Oh” face. And then her little heart did the sweetest thing! She leaned in and gave me a kiss! 💋 This is such a kind gesture because she recently learned that if she accidentally hurts someone, she kisses them to make them feel better! I definitely needed a towel to wipe up my melted heart in that chaotic locker room! 💕
