Just Keep Swimming!
🧜 This BABE loves the water! 🧜
I've always wanted a *water baby* and she truly is one! I spent a lot of my childhood days at Sholem Pool swimming every summer! I learned a lot of life lessons there, such as:
I shouldn't wear two piece swimming suits...like ever.
Throwing a 14K gold necklace into the pool as a way to "breakup" with your summer boyfriend is immature.
That rule about waiting to swim 30 minutes after you eat? Total bullshit.
It blows my mind when I meet adults that don't know how to swim! Drowning is still one of the most common causes of accidental death in children, so being able to swim is an essential life-saving skill for them to have!
A year ago, we went to my nephew Mason's birthday party which was held in a hotel in Champaign. This was when Waylin was around 5 months old and it was actually her first time in a swimming pool! 🥽 I was nervous about being in a bathing suit with my postpartum body, but seeing her smile and play in the water made me forget that I felt like a whale. 🐋
We also took her to a REAL pool a couple of times last summer. She CLEARLY loved it!
It actually takes a lot of preparation and thinking ahead when taking a baby to the pool. Sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, towels, etc. We didn't want to chance any swim diaper episodes on the car ride over there, so changing in the bathroom once we got there was our only option. That was the first time I'd ever use a changing table in a public place.
I did what any first time mom would do. I layered that bad boy with SO many paper towels! I thought I was a geeeeeniuuuuuuus (pronounced GENE-YUSSSS 😀) until it came time to undress her to go home. I laid our all the paper towels again and her wet body stuck to ALL of the paper towels. She looked like a flat gingerbread cookie from the back! 🍪
We spent a lot of last summer in this little blow-up pool that MIL got us for our backyard! Several times, Ben would setup our beach umbrella in a bucket to help shade the pool for us! No matter how busy Ben was, he always helped setup her little pool! ❤️️
We recently went to my nephew Mason's birthday party in Danville! He had a hotel party again, which meant...SWIM PARTY! ❤️️ Ben stayed home to work on our kitchen and look at a work van, so I didn't get any pictures of us swimming together in the pool this time.
Swimming with her that day was such a beautiful memory! ❣️ Her smile never left her face! And neither did mine! The pool was completely empty, so it was just the two of us splashing around!
She loved being on her tummy in the water and practicing "jumping" from the side of the pool. It truly was the deciding factor in assuring me that we should try swimming lessons this summer! 🥽
So, as I mentioned in my previous post, she is signed up for lessons starting this summer! I think it'll be great for her! And I hope we meet some other mommy friends in the process too! 💜
I'll let you know how our first lesson goes! 🤞
