Friyay Playday
I had Friday off from work because MIL was having a small procedure done. I really didn't have anything planned for the day. I figured we would just be bums around the house...we're reeeeally good at that! But, we decided to be spontaneous and try something new! Unplanned moments are always better than planned ones, right?! We decided to check out the Children's Discovery Museum in Normal, IL. We threw on some clothes and out the door we went! 💨
I didn't tell Ben that we were headed to a children's museum. He gets worried about her getting sick. I do too, but I know how important it is that she gets some exposure to different learning environments as well as interaction with other kids! ❤️️
This museum was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! It's three stories tall with SO many different areas to play in. She ran over to this car/truck table first! Imagine that! 😊
Next, there was a big water table area. This was by far Waylin's favorite spot in the entire museum!
She collected all of the water toys and put them in a row on the ledge. Her favorite water activity was taking these little balls and holding them under the fountain while alllllll the water sprayed all over her shirt! 🤷
MOM FAIL: I didn't realize they had water smocks for the kids to wear so they didn't get wet while playing with the water table. Whoops! 😱
MOM WIN: I brought extra clothes like the *boss* that I am! 😘
Needless to say, we spent the majority of our time at the water table! She was S-O-A-K-E-D!
Speaking of her love for water, I signed her up for her first extra-curricular activity!
SWIMMING LESSONS!
We decided to try a summer session at the Urbana Aquatics Center that starts in June! I am so excited! I've been searching the internet for lots of swimsuit options! I find pools to be kinda cold, so a rashguard option may be best! More on that to come!
Once I was able to pull her away from the water table, we made our way over to the "grocery store" portion of the museum. She was a total #carbiebarbie 💁 and rang me up for the bread that I wanted to buy! 😂
She's been really into magnets lately. I have a family tradition that I started when Ben and I started dating. At the end of each year, I order a magnet for the fridge that showcases a collage of pictures of us as a family and some of the most memorable things that happened to us that year.
We now have 5 magnets to represent the 5 years that we have been together. Our 2018 magnet has pictures from the 4th of July where Waylin got to see tannerite blown up by her daddy, a picture of Way and Ben on the excavator machine that we used to fix our yard after we went through the horror of a septic failure, us trick-or-treating at MIL's house, etc. Just fun little memories that remind us that our family made it through another year of ups and downs.
Waylin recently started playing with these magnets, so it wasn't surprising that she enjoyed the magnet display at the museum!
Another cool aspect of this children's museum was the massive stage area and costume shop! Kids can choose from a large assortment of costumes and put on their own play!
Waylin grabbed the pink and yellow boas to start with.
Gah, isn't she adorable?
She played with them for a little bit, but then picked something much more "Bohlen"...a huge knife! 😂 She ran around the top floor bouncing the knife around (as you can see in the picture above!) The irony of it all was that there was a little boy dressed as a cop. Even HE didn't stop that kind of craziness! 😂 #breakingthelawbreakingthelaw
We also found out that Waylin weighs at least 4 gallons of milk! 🥛
Overall, I highly recommend the Children's Discovery Museum! It is jam packed with so many sensory activities and it is very clean! Next time we go, I want to try out the painting area (with a smock, of course!)
We ended our day with Chick-fil-a and a quick stop at Target!
