Damnit, Dale!
I still can't believe we are taking on another kitchen renovation, but here we are! DOING THA THANGS! We knew when we bought our house that the kitchen was outdated and would need some attention. Trust me when I say, it is seeeriously ugly. We don't have the budget to do a full blown renovation, so we are trying to work with the almond counter tops they left us with and outdated cabinets. New countertops would make a MAJOR difference, but we couldn't justify ripping those out as they were new when we moved in. Why on earth these old folks would choose almond colored countertops in today's age? Beats me.
On Saturday, we went to three home improvement stores looking for tile ideas that work with almond countertops. Sounds impossible, right? 😂 You all know by now that Waylin absolutely loves to push carts. We've done the grocery store before, so now she's breaking in the ones at Home Depot! :)
Oh gosh, I just remembered something that happened at Home Depot! Waylin was sitting in the cart and I was playing peek-a-boo with her around the end cap of an aisle. "Boo!" Giggles ensued as I ran around the corner again, except this time...I pulled a classic cartoon-esque slip and fall. And I'm talking like feet-above-my-head type of fall (with some hang time too!) I laughed so hard! Ben came around the corner like, "Did you really just fall out of nowhere?" LOL...Yes, yes I did! 😂
I let Waylin run around Menards a little bit to burn off some energy. We played games and chased each other around the store while Ben was the responsible one figuring out measurements. 😂 We spent a good amount of time in the toy aisle rearranging frisbees, oh...about seven hundred times!
We ended up finding a perfect backsplash at Menards. We think it will look great with our almond countertops. The pictures below do not do it justice. It has a nice amount of sparkle to it which helps make it more modern. I prefer subway tile in most homes, but I think Ben was right with the stone.
Pretty, right?!
I almost tear up every time I think about this, but I am incredibly lucky to have a man like Ben. He works so tirelessly on our home, even when he doesn't feel well. He always tells me that he doesn't know how I can be so happy and energetic all the time. Equally so, I don't know how he works so hard all the time. ❤️️ He is a good man...a really good one! #blessed
He came home and started ripping off the tile late in the afternoon. That's how we knew that we were "really in it" now! *shudder* That tile is horrid! 😱
Norma and Dale were the previous owners of our nightmare house, and we probably curse them once a week for the problems they have put us through with this home. 😨 Considering the condition of this house and the problems that we've been through, I think it's fair for us to shake our fists in the air at them...often. 😄
We finished the weekend off with pancakes again! This is becoming a tradition for our family! We went extra early, which is apparent on this sleepy girl's face! 😍
P.S. In two of the pictures above, Waylin is holding a snack pack bag from Booberry Shop. I "met" Valerie through hashtags on Instagram and won a llama giveaway she had. This small business is ran by the sweetest mama and is probably my favorite Etsy shop I've ever worked with!
