The First Father's Day to Ever Mean Something

The First Father's Day to Ever Mean Something

I never really had a good reason to buy a Father's Day card.  This isn't some lame, sappy blog post about what may appear to be "daddy issues."  It is true that I no longer have a relationship with my dad, and that has been a beautiful blessing in the past 5-6 years.  In fact, I had more "daddy issues" when we used to speak and see each other on a regular basis.  The toxicity of that man's mind and actions filled the floor with too many eggshells for me to tread, so I turned around, casually walked the opposite way, and never looked back.

You get mixed responses from people when they find out that you ended a relationship with one of your parents.  The most common involves some overused mantra about growing up and coming back together again one day.  I always cringe a little when I hear that comment, because I'm not interested in a "someday" situation and I never will be.  There is no curiosity or lingering sadness that haunts me by not having him around.  There is only genuine happiness and freedom from that black hole.

Speaking of happiness, the Father's Day card that I gave Ben was really well received! I ended up ordering one from an Etsy shop named "Fresh Out Of Ink."  I think it compliments the "Baby Mama" Mother's Day card that he got me last month!

I wrote a little message inside about how I've never had a reason to buy a Father's Day card until now.  I told him how excited I am to see him become the greatest dad I've ever known.  I told him that Baby Bohlen is really lucky to have him and will ALWAYS have a reason to buy a Father's Day card with him around!

We spent most of the day at my in-laws' house, as it was a two part party:  celebrating Father's Day and my FIL's birthday.  We had some cheeseburgers on the grill and spent most of the day just hanging outside, because it was beautiful!

My BIL, SIL, and Ben all brought their guns over to shoot at the "Bohlen Range" they have setup on their property.  Ben finally got to use the handgun he bought awhile back (and had never shot with!), as well as his AR-15.

Isn't he so cute?

I shot about 4 bullets with the handgun (not even a full magazine lol) and gave it back to Ben.  I held the stupid gun the wrong way with the first shot and it caught me on the thumb, so I was bleeding a little bit.  I warned my FIL that I really can't see well, and those 4 shots didn't even show up on the target, so it was probably for the best that I gave the gun back!  Don't get me wrong, I love shooting, but I felt like such a *newb* in front of his family!

P.S. This picture is the *FIRST* picture of me with my pregnant belly on Facebook.

Ben even got some tannerite out and blew SH*T up!  Check it out:

I was so impressed with his target practice too.  They have 4 little round targets lined up on a little stand, and he just hit every single one in a row (dink dink dink dink) and then would come back through the opposite way (tink tink tink tink).  It really assured me that when/if a zombie apocalypse is our way of life, we will be juuuuuust fine!  :)

Overall, it was a great Father's Day filled with a lot of happiness and family.  I cannot stress enough how excited/anxious I am to see Ben in his role as a father.  There is no doubt in my mind that the two of them will have an amazing bond, and I feel very lucky to have this little family of mine.

I love you, Benjamin (aka Daddy) lol
