Santa Pouts and Pretty Necklaces
Meeting Santa is like Russian Roulette…with kids. You never know if you’re going to get tears or that Christmas card worthy smile. Waylin falls somewhere in the middle, and by middle, I mean supreme stoicism. For someone who spends M O N T H S getting excited about Santa…lol.
Here are her expressions from the previous years for reference:
2017 - 8 weeks old
2018 - 1 year + 2 months
2019 - 2 years + 2 months
Hey, at least she’s consistent! 🤣 When we were waiting in line to see Santa this year, she was so excited and smiling. The MINUTE she sits on his lap, she looks like she would rather be somewhere else. We told Santa that she wanted cars and a pretty necklace. She constantly asks me to put my necklace on her. I thought we would dress up for Santa, so I dug out my jewelry box. I found a necklace that was my Nanna’s.
My grandpa and I couldn’t make out the old script very well, but we sent this picture to my cousin Markus in Austria and he confirmed that it says “God Bless You.” He said it is a very old necklace, and I love old time-y things like that. ❤
SIDE NOTE: I miss Nanna so much. I really do think about her a lot. As I get older, I just get even more amazed at the kind of woman she was, even when she’s not with us anymore. I mean, she came to the US without knowing a lick of English with my grandpa and became such a strong woman. I really cherish the fact that I was able to have a relationship with her all of my life. Especially towards the end of hers, we became very close. I told her so many things that I hadn’t even told my own mum. I aspire to be her one day.
We met my family for breakfast after meeting Santa to celebrate my birthday. This year, my birthday was actually on Thanksgiving, which BTW, is the BEST! I was really looking forward to it, but the world had other plans for me. Waylin caught a really nasty stomach bug…I’m talking actual puking, refusing liquids, not eating, fever, and random pink eye.
I am not very good at taking care of sick people. CORRECTION: I am not very good at taking care of sick adults. I’ve always just taken care of myself and pushed through until I felt better. I minimally complain about being sick, because what.is.the.point? Ben is the complete opposite and I feel sorry for him that he didn’t marry a loving, care-taking wife. 🤣
I think I did a good job of taking care of Waylin. She refused all medicine, so that was really difficult and made me have to be in tune with how to take care of her in other ways. Every time I tried to give her Motrin or Tylenol, she would force herself to throw up. We survive though…until I caught the stomach bug a few days later. 😩
We were all back to normal for my birthday brunch though! Afterwards, we did some light shopping together. Ben got to see how helpful Waylin is when she goes shopping. She loves to hold the basket, pick items off the shelf, and eat cheese samples. 🧀 So much so, that we actually know the cheese sample lady. 😁
We spent the rest of the day making pizzas out of Playdoh and writing letters to Santa.
I added a note telling Santa that she does actually love him and that she got her serious face from the Salfelder family. 😂
Overall, our day of meeting Santa was a good one. I guess we will roll the dice again next year and see what kind of picture we get! 🎲
