Without you, I'd go off the Peep end

For the record, peeps belong in the trash. ✔

We have officially celebrated our first holiday in quarantine. I’m not sure how many other holidays we will have to spend “sheltered at home”, but hopefully we are free to celebrate the 4th of July like normal! If we are unquarantined by then, Independence Day is going to be lit! I’m talking cut off shorts, guns, BBQ, and a shit load of fireworks. That’s a pretty normal Bohlen 4th though! 😁

* fingers crossed *

Other than not getting to see family, we had a pretty normal Easter at our house!

We started our Easter weekend off with dying eggs with a Paw Patrol kit I found at Aldi for under $2. I’ve never dyed eggs on my own before, so I had a lot of fun seeing the final product with Waylin. We were both really happy with how they turned out!

Easter morning started at 5 AM, but luckily she just wanted to eat some muffins and then take a nap cuddled up with me. Ben actually woke us up by letting us know that the Easter bunny just ran through our living room!

She got lots of good stuff! The Easter bunny brought sparkly playdoh, chalk, undies to help with potty training, socks, a necklace, Paw Patrol plates and utensils, a large chicken, fly swatter, books, cars, and peeps (😝). She was really happy with what he brought her!

Ben actually surprised me with breakfast while Waylin and I cracked into the new Playdoh! He hasn’t made me breakfast in a long time, so that was a really nice gesture. He also did a load of dishes a couple days ago. I was really surprised because this man hasn’t had to do dishes in years; I do them! You know, he’s been having a tough time the past 3 years and I consistently feel unloved many days, so I know this was a really big effort on his part. I appreciated both gestures very, very much. ❤

She got dressed in her cute little hipster Easter outfit and out we went to see what the Easter bunny left outside for her. It seems he dropped a bunch of eggs all over the backyard, so we went to go check them out!

It was pretty exciting!

I didn’t get a picture of it, but Ben did a ton of work on fixing the steps going down to our dock/beach area. It looks really nice, so I think that’s why the Easter bunny was hoppin’ around back there dropping eggs everywhere! 🐰

That laugh is just the best!

She got chocolate and coins to put into her piggy bank. Ben said it’s her car fund, but little does he know….we will be buying her first car. 🤣 We actually talked about that this past weekend and we both have two different schools of thought: he believes you should buy your own car with your own money and I think she should be given a car. He saved up for a long time and bought the best car he could afford and it’s been history ever since for him, Mr. I-Have-Owned-100-Cars-In-My-Lifetime. 🏎

My family bought my first car for me and it was a really, really nice car. I was an Honor Roll student, got an Internship at a law firm, and stayed out of trouble. I EASILY had the nicest car in the whole school, even compared to kids older than me. It taught me responsibility and I took care of that car better than any other 16 year old. I think I detailed my car every 2 days to make sure she was clean and happy!

Maybe it has to do with the type of person you are and other circumstances? I guess we have less than 14 years left to figure out what we will do. OMG! FOURTEEN YEARS?! That will be here before we know it!

Ben was tired, so Waylin and I did alllll the things: playdoh (again…it’s always playdoh), cars, blocks, coloring, etc. We decided it was time to break out the chalk and color outside. She LOVES drawing “spikes” on a horrible dinosaur that I can draw, toppings on pizza (especially pepperonis), and telling me what to draw.

It was a little chilly, but we managed to run around enough to warm up!

We came inside to start making dinner: Steak Kabobs!

I try my best to involve Waylin in cooking with me. I’m not an expert at all. I didn’t grow up with making home cooked meals every night…and that’s okay! My mum was divorced and going back to school, raising two kids on her own. She always did the best she could, and there are some things she makes that I think are the best I’ve ever had. I want Waylin to have experience and memories of cooking with her mama, so even when it’s something that she can’t do, I try to involve her somehow.

When it comes to kabobs, it’s a lot of chopping and piercing veggies/meat on sticks. She needs to be a little bit older to take on those tasks, but I let her help me soak the skewers.

I make the kabobs in the air fryer that I got for Christmas from MIL and it’s so easy!

I chop up a ribeye, green peppers, sweet onion, and mushrooms and string them onto wooden skewers. Hah! This is very “millennial” of me, but I couldn’t FOR THE LIFE OF ME find skewers in the grocery store. Side note: another items I frequently cannot find unless I stumble upon it is rice krispie treats. I think I asked MIL twice where to find them, but just couldn’t spot them. Soooo, I amazon-ed them to my house. 😂 I mean, that’s one way to do it, right?!

I make an all pepper one for Waylin. She will tell you that she likes “bobs” like in the video, but she really just likes taking the food off the skewer and putting it back on. Aaaaand repeat 5 times before Ben takes it away. 🤣 She does like green peppers, but somehow she only likes them raw…and whole. 🤦‍♀️ I have several videos of her biting into a green pepper and you can hear me laughing in the background.

Overall, Easter in Quarantine wasn’t bad at all. We still managed to make it a fun day and we will never forget how blessed we are to call ourselves a family. ❤
