Help, I need somebody! Help, not just anybody...

Help, I need somebody! Help, not just anybody...

TRUTH: I actually really loved The Beatles when I was growing up! I begged my mum for a greatest hits CD for Christmas and I still remember my discman spinning with that red CD going round and round.

And now my life has changed in oh so many ways
My independence seems to vanish in the haze
But every now and then I feel so insecure
I know that I just need you like I’ve never done before
— "Help" by The Beatles

I had one of those days that you don’t really realize how magical it is until you’re reflecting back on what you did for the weekend. This day was completely magical because Waylin was the BEST helper! She always is, but today topped the cake!

We started our morning going to the butcher to stock up on meat. She helped me pick out the meat from the case. Somehow she didn’t help with paying for the bill…😁 Way even insisted on carrying the cooler bag FULL of meat to the car!

Going to go get meat at the butcher (helping me get it out of the cold case, carrying it to the car, snacks in the backseat, helping me carry onions, helping me make waffles in the morning) - make this post about how she is learning to HELP.

I always knew she was strong, but I didn’t know she was 10 pounds of extra lean ground beef and 3 packs of pineapple sticks STRONG! 💪 Can you believe it?

We stopped by the gas station and I let her pick out a snack! She choose a bag of Cheetos! It doesn’t surprise me, because MIL told me she liked eating those over at her house! I crawled into the backseat with her and we shared a snack together while we sat at the gas pump! No one told me parenthood would be a lot of backseat dining! 😊

She fed me cheetos: one for me, one for you! We giggled and snacked for a good 10 minutes!

When we got home, she helped me unload the cooler!

As if an hour long drive to the butcher wasn’t enough, I still needed to get groceries from the store. I asked her if she was up for it, and she nodded yes. So, off we went!

Now, I’ve written about this a couple of times, but she is very independent and helpful when we go to the grocery store. I let her help me as much as she can. On this particular trip, we needed some sweet onions.

We picked out our onions, and because there weren’t any produce bags, I asked her to follow me to the cart. She insisted that she would carry both onions. Those onions dropped on the floor about 238 more times after these pictures were taken! 🤣 It gave me and an older lady in a wheelchair a really good laugh! She said she had to stop and watch!

The lady told me that she has never seen someone teach their baby how to shop at the grocery store and that I am doing a really great job! This lady reminded me of my Nanna, so her words really touched my soul! ❤

Speaking of helping in the grocery store, Waylin also helped me get deli meat for Ben. We discovered that the best deli meat comes from Harvest Market. It’s organic, fresh, and tastes great!

Every day, she seems to want more and more independence in wanting to walk by herself instead of being carried. I let her walk as long as she holds my hand. We walked into Harvest Market together. When she saw the little shopping baskets, she had to have one!

BIG shoutout to the Harvest Market employees! They were all encouraging this strong little girl! 💪

She was determined to carry the basket around the entire store and THAT SHE DID! ❤️ She even impressed some firefighters...hiccups and all! 😂 We decided to surprise Ben with some cookies too. Waylin walked all the way to the cookie aisle carrying the basket!

I decided to make it fun and let her choose which cookies we would buy for Daddy. Of course, she choose some healthier, non-GMO cookies! :) She is literally the best…ever!

Almost every morning, we do waffles and fruit for breakfast! She’s totally a waffle girl, and I love it! ❤ On a Sunday morning, she grabbed my hand and dragged me to the kitchen to make her breakfast. She knew the routine! I thought she might want to help me make breakfast!

She pulled a waffle out of the box and learned how to use the toaster. I’m sure some parents are reading this and cringing, but she really enjoyed putting the waffle in and pushing down on the lever.

I think we all want our kids to turn out to be decent human beings. Part of being a “good human” is to be responsible and caring. I hope by giving her these little tasks that she is learning the important of helping others and how good it feels inside to help someone. ❤
