She Used the Word "Bungalow"?
The day has finally come! We are selling our home! This has been in discussion for a couple years now, but with a baby on the way, that gave us the final push to stop talking about it and BE ABOUT IT!
We decided to list our home with a realtor instead of trying to sell it ourselves. I think the overall stress factor of trying to sell our house by ourselves was the main factor in deciding to go with a realtor. But, it's stressful no matter how you do it! We are still in the early stages too, so the stress is only going to get worse.
Last Tuesday (5/23/17), our home was listed as "Coming Soon," and TODAY is the official first day that the house is on the market.
My husband has been a little frustrated with our realtor since he signed the papers with her. She's hard to get ahold of, and we have to remind her of things she promised to do "tomorrow." I told Ben he can fire her at any time, but I'm leaving those decisions with him, because this is his house.
Here's the description of our home on Zillow:
When we read the word "bungalow" in the description, we both said WTF!? I don't consider our home to be a bungalow. I even googled definitions of the word to be sure that I was correct! I can see how someone might think that, but a bungalow to me infers that a home is small. We don't want our home to be perceived as small, because it really isn't! I don't know the exact figure, but our home is over 1200 square feet. That's quite a lot of space compared to other homes I've seen that have more bedrooms that we do!
I think our tall ceilings really help make the home feel more spacious too. About a month ago, Benjamin and I looked at a stick-built home in Mahomet that had some ridiculous 10+ car garage (ya, you can imagine which one of us wanted to go see it). It was a 3 bedroom/2 bathroom home, which fits our minimum requirements; however, it felt so small. The homeowner told us it was approximately 1500 sq ft, which is about 300+ compared to our current home, but I felt like I couldn't even breathe in there without hitting walls or ceiling.
Anyway, my *religious* boss gifted us a "Saint Joseph Home Selling Kit." I have never heard of this before, but I was intrigued! Apparently, you bury a statue of Saint Joseph, and say a prayer for good luck when selling your home. Some people believe the statue should be buried upside down, but the instructions inside the box said that it's more respectful to bury him right-side up.
We decided to give it a try, because WHY NOT?! We decided to bury him right-side up next to our detached 2-car garage which is one of the *less appealing* parts of our home. After getting over some giggles, we held hands and said the prayer together. When your home sells, you are supposed to dig Saint Joseph back up and plant him at your new home for good fortune.
I'll post more pictures of our home soon!
