Life is so much easier when you chill out
JULY THEN: Just got out of Sholem pool after my mum dropped me off 7 hours ago, where a boy asked me to be his girlfriend, but then I found him flirting with the concession stand girl, so I took off the gold necklace he gave me and threw it in the deep end (I’m sure there was a very fitting song on the PA system at the time). I get in my mum’s white Lincoln Towncar wet as a dog and come home to eat a popsicle in the backyard thinking boys ain’t shit…
JULY NOW: I’m eating popsicles in the backyard nightly after swimming with my daughter in her baby pool while happily wearing a gold necklace with her name and my husband’s name on it.
[Side note: He was so pissed when he asked for the necklace back and I pointed to the water. I still remember his frantic dive searching for that thing. He couldn’t find it and he came up yelling, “THAT WAS MY GRANDMA’S NECKLACE!” 😂 Yeah, I could tell, you cheater. ]
I don’t know if there’s anything more “summer” than swimming and after-dinner popsicles. A quarantined summer has definitely been different than what we are normally used to. There hasn’t been trips to zoos, pancakes dates, big water parks, or the beach this year which makes me really sad. But despite not having those parts of summer, that’s not to say we haven’t been creating our own fun!
Here’s a little montage of our late night popsicle/swimming dates:
My SIL made some really cool fringe T-shirts for Waylin with her new Etsy shop and we have been wearing them religiously all over the place. Sometimes we wear them as dresses too! ❤
She likes to sit down my the lake and eat popsicles with me at this gorgeous golden hour where the sun peaks through the neighbors house and trees. It just makes me feel so in love with her and it makes me forget we are in the middle of a pandemic. We watch the fish hop out of the water and we even saw a snapping turtle! We talk the entire time about everything that is happening outside.
No, we did not swim this day…she just wanted to wear a dinosaur t-shirt with her floatie and some sparkly gold cowboy boots to check the mail with me! 🤣 She really pulls it off with a smile like that!
And it wouldn’t be a perfect popsicle date without Waylin showing me her color-changing tongue several times! I live for these kinds of nights, really. I will never get tired of seeing her messy face enjoying a popsicle. 😎
