WHAT LIKE IT'S HARD?
I have said this so many times, but: I told myself I didn’t want to be the person running around saying “where does time go?”, but HONESTLY WHERE IN THE HELL DOES.IT.GO?
Where does it go because I don’t know how I have a Kindergartner GRADUATE in front of my camera right now. My sweet “too shy to say hi” girl walked into Kindergarten just yesterday it seems. Kindergarten was a HUGE change for her after we spent so much time together…especially the year before she went to Kindergarten.
After the stint she had in the PICU prior to going to Kindergarten, shortly after losing my grandpa, I decided to keep her home. Side note: I really do need to write a blog post on that event in our lives and what they found! Her immune system was abysmal when she was released from the hospital after a 3 day stay. Her doctor warned that we should keep her home due to her levels being so low, and that turned into…well, permanent.
Her and I spent 9 whole months together every single day before she moved on to Kindergarten. It was a major blessing to be able to work from home and be able to spend so much time with her before she went to school. It was a hard transition for me losing my best friend, but I tried to make Kindergarten an exciting adventure for her, and love her from afar.
“Waylin is just a dream to have in the classroom” said her teachers. She was very shy, but ended up coming around and made a lot of friends. There wasn’t a single kid in her class that she wasn’t friendly with. I remember attending all of her school events; something that is incredibly important to me as her parent. Oh, I’m just recalling so many things I need to go back and update the blog with as I type! I’m getting out of turn here…
Every time I attended some kind of school event, kids were either yelling excitedly, “Hi, Waylin!” or running up and giving her a HUGE hug. She even had crushes! She really made an impact in Kindergarten as being a very kind person and it makes me so proud I could cry!
Was Kindergarten easy? No. In fact, it put me in a position where I had to double down on who “I” knew my daughter was versus an assessment. Whew, more on that in another post for sure! However, Waylin worked really hard in Kindergarten and I mean it. She put in a lot of work to learn in this new environment.
So, was Kindergarten hard? YES. But it was also very rewarding, fun, and pivotal for her and she did it!
We left Kindergarten to focus on a fun summer where the two of us get to be home together again…every day!
