Happy Birthday, Waylin!

Happy Birthday, Waylin!

I thought I would share the post that I wrote on Facebook for Waylin’s birthday. It’s only a small snippet of how I’ve been feeling about life now that she’s two!

..hiii, it’s me again, that mom that speaks to her daughter’s non-existent Facebook on her second birthday. How did we get to two? I could go on and on about how fast time goes, but wouldn’t that be a waste of even more time?

This is the part where I tell you that it makes me sad to know that you need me less and less as time goes on. It is within that sadness that I am inspired by something new. As I lose the ability to do things like rock you to sleep, I realize that you need me in different ways. Now, you need me to tuck you in and read a book that involves a strenuous amount of moo-ing before bedtime (guys, we’re not reading a book with cows in it; it’s Llama Llama.)

My heart is filled with so much pride as I watch you become more and more uniquely you:

🔸You’re brave. They say the Universe listens to the brave.
🔸You’re funny. They say humor is intelligence having some fun.
🔸You’re inquisitive. They say the future belongs to the curious.

You’re all these things that don’t have a limit. Shatter those ceilings, baby girl. I will always love all of you and I’ll be here for you…however you might need me. Moooooo. 🐄

Happy Birthday, Waylin! ♥️️

It’s kind of crazy when your daughter has a birthday, because obviously it’s a celebration of her existence, but it’s also a time for us mamas to reflect on ourselves too. When I say that out loud, it almost seems a little selfish, but I live every moment of my life for her, so I think it’s important to check in on myself and how I’m feeling too. Birthdays just seem to be a good milestone for that kind of reflection.

There are so many moments in the past year where you have started to do things on your own. And while my initial feeling is to feel sad, my heart is actually happy for you. I think the key to getting over that feeling of “loss” is to realize that she doesn’t need you less; she needs you in different ways. And every year from here on.

All I can do is spend every day being who she needs me to be. ❤

I’m excited to grow with you, little lady!
