December Recap: Part 2
This picture was taken on our drive to my in-laws for Christmas. Ben and I went to my mum's house early in the morning for Christmas breakfast. I was really happy that Ben came this year, and so was my mum! We usually split for the holidays and go to our own family's celebrations, but this is the first year we were married and celebrating Christmas, so maybe that is what made things different?!
Christmas Eve was more special than usual, because it marked 6 whole months of being married! We didn't do anything too special, but it was nice to reflect on the past 6 months and all we have done in that time, especially to our home! (I'm hoping to dedicate a whole blog post to our kitchen remodel soon...)
Christmas morning, my mum bought me this maroon felt hat, and I loved it! Ben was obsessed with it too! I felt like I was channeling my inner Stevie Nicks! :) When we were getting ready to leave, my mum just looked at me and Ben and said, "I used to look like that!" I've always felt like I looked more like my mum than my dad...which is a good thing! :)
We spent the rest of the day at my in-laws doing Christmas and eating. It was an overall really good day! This year, we went simple with Christmas, meaning gift cards for almost everyone! I don't know why people feel weird about giving gift cards! I personally love getting a gift card! I wanted the gift card to feel more like a gift though than just handing someone an envelope, so I reused some mason jars and made them all cute! I filled them with pricey chocolate too! For the kids, we ended up giving them money. So, I rolled up $20 in ones for each jar and managed to fit them in the jar still rolled! It was a huge hit with the kids! Although, my hands smelled bad no matter how many times I washed them after doing all of that! :)
Ben didn't understand why I was obsessed with wrapping all the presents and making them personalized. I tried to tell him that it's just something that I do. In the end, Ben was REALLY impressed with the presents! He told me NOW he understands! Haha! I even made sure that I wrapped his accordingly (but at a whole new embarrassing level!)
Muahahah!
We didn't get a chance to exchange presents until very late...as usual! Ben had bought me FOUR TIMES as many presents as I had bought him! I kept telling him to STOP! He told me he couldn't! I had a very hard time trying to figure out what to get Ben! He is incredibly difficult to shop for, because he doesn't tell me what he wants. I ended up buying him a bunch of car parts for his truck, and he was very happy with that!
I also purchased a custom notebook from an Etsy shop called A Little Scrap Of Happy. I don't know how many times Ben and I sit down to watch TV and we can't find something good to watch. But yet, so many times, we will be like, "OMG, that was such a good movie! I can't believe you haven't seen it! Let's watch that soon!" and we totally forget what we said...#signsofoldage
Ben got me everything I asked for on my list, which was a lot of cookware, socks, eyeglass cleaner, etc. He also surprised me with some things that I didn't know I needed. He is SOO good at buying gifts for me! It makes me feel bad when I don't do as well! :/
We spent a lot of our time working on the kitchen between Christmas and NYE. I am so excited to show everyone pictures of our beautiful kitchen remodel! As of today, we are not finished, but I'll update you soon!
So, New Years Eve rolled around. Ben wasn't feeling very well and decided to stay home. I ended up going to Texas Road House with Lindsay, Gunner, and his girlfriend Krista. I originally just planned on going to dinner, but Ice House was calling my name!
I had a couple of martinis there, and then decided to come home (like I promised Ben!)
When I came home, I was greeted by my crazy poodle and the sight of Benjamin curled up comfortably on the couch. I knew I was right where I was supposed to be! :)
We watched a little bit of TV, but I fell asleep at about 10 PM. Didn't even make it to midnight! #ourageisreallyshowing
NYE was mild, but I was happy to be snoozin' in the new year with my BFF! :)
